Who we are
The Creative Lab is more than just an art studio. It’s a welcoming space where kids and families can come together, learn new techniques, deepen their skills, and let curiosity lead the way. It’s a place to challenge yourself, get inspired, and connect with others in a supportive, judgment-free environment.
What makes us different is our focus on the process rather than the final product. At The Creative Lab, we believe creativity is about more than making something beautiful. It’s about the feelings, growth, and joy that come with creating. That’s why social-emotional learning is at the heart of everything we do.
We keep our classes small because we want to get to know each child, their strengths, interests, and opportunities for growth. Whether it’s through photography, sculpting, crafting, or other art forms, our goal is to ensure every participant feels seen, heard, and supported. The Creative Lab is more than a studio, it’s a community where everyone belongs.

Miri
FOUNDER
Hi, I’m Miri—founder of The Creative Lab and a lifelong maker at heart. After 15+ years leading marketing teams in tech, I found my way back to creativity through crafting with my daughter. Now I get to do what I love most—make art with kids and create a space where they can feel creative, confident, and completely themselves. When I’m not running the studio, you’ll often find me right there in class, crafting alongside them.

Lauren
TEACHER
Hi! I'm Lauren, and I’ll be teaching photography and crafting. I’m a fourth-year Art and Applied Psychology student at UCSB with a lifelong love for making—especially painting, photography, and all things crafty. After two summers teaching Arts & Crafts at a camp in Yosemite, I’m thrilled to keep sharing what I love with young creators. When I’m not in the studio, you’ll likely find me hiking, surfing, or chasing wildflowers with my camera.

Ruby
TEACHER
Hi! I’m Ruby, a second-year Film & Media Studies major at UCSB with a big love for all things creative! Whether it’s photography, graphic design, yoga, or thrifting, I’m happiest when I’m making something fun. I also adore cats and believe in the magic of imagination! At the Creative Lab, I’m so excited to help kids explore their artistic side and turn their ideas into colorful, creative masterpieces.

Zea
TEACHER
Hi! I’m Zea, a lifelong artist with a BA in Art from UCSC and a deep love for creative exploration. My journey started early, making dolls from clay and felt, painting everything in sight, and dreaming up imaginative worlds. I believe every child should be able to express themselves through art, and I am so excited to be a part of this program that encourages artistic exploration. Art helps children build confidence, develop problem-solving skills, and find joy in creating something that is uniquely their own.

Remy
HONORY MEMBER
Hi, I’m Remy, the chocolate lab around here (and yes, the cutest member of the team). Full disclosure: The Creative Lab wasn’t my idea. If it were up to me, we’d call it The Lazy Lab. But I guess napping isn’t considered a creative discipline... yet. Most days, I’m behind the scenes catching up on sleep, but every now and then I pop in to say hi, check out what you’re making, or sniff around for snacks. I may not have opposable thumbs, but I do bring lots of love, calm vibes, and the occasional tail wag to the studio.
